101 Ways to Imagine Split, Croatia
Tucked away on a corner street in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, DC is a gem of the creative culture that remains ever abundant in this region. For 37 years, a children’s theatre called the Imagination Stage has thrilled, entertained, and allowed for some artistic flexibility.
Unlike most theatres that strive to wow the audience with soaring sets and as much resemblance to reality, this theatre allows one…well…to use their imagination. That is not to say it does not have beautiful sets, amazing costumes, and even some special effects.
But at the same time it reserves the right to leave some things up to the audience as a partner in the show, letting them be a part of the creative process, rather than always spoon feeding their minds.
My maiden venture to the Imagination Stage was last year to see 101 Dalmatians, the classic book and famous Disney cartoon and later remake.
Here I got to see the timeless classic retold with human size puppets and actors wearing Dalmatian outfits. Admittedly, it was a refreshing look at how the brain can always be thinking “outside the box” and different angles can always be given to a well known story.
Plus I also have a confession to make…
I think Dalmatians are just beautiful dogs. So for me this show was a combination of not just creativity and imagination, but a whole lot of canine spotted cuteness.
Alright, so this is the point where I have to take my personal story and link it up to something going on at Euro Jet.
The year 2016 for Euro Jet has started out with one word.
Split.
Split, Croatia. For many years, Euro Jet stopped working at this airport. It became the only location in the Euro Jet Network where we could not offer assistance.
Personally, I always found it interesting that the one place we could not work, happened to be called…Split.
The word Split is defined as something that is broken apart. What are the odds?
Intrigued by the name of this second largest city in Croatia, I decided to explore the origin of the name Split and figure out where it came from.
What I found is that it is really just a coincidence that it happens to be called Split.
The city itself is an ancient Greek city founded over 2,400 years ago. In historical terms, that is defined as very, very old.
The name Split is actually derived from a flower called the Calicotome spinosa, which is a yellow budding flower also known as the Thorny or Spiny Broom. The city went through many different names, including Aspalathum, Spalathum, Spalatrum, and Spalatro until finally settling on the Croatian name of Split or Spljet.
It goes without saying that Euro Jet is thrilled to be back in this beautiful Port City, one of the cultural centers of Europe and host of the very popular Croatian boat show.
It took a lot of work, and a little creativity and imagination to figure out Split and of course we are very pleased with the outcome.
Perhaps this was no coincidence.
Split is located in a region of Croatia called Dalmatia.
And you guessed it, there is a famous breed of dog that originate from this part of the world called Dalmatians.
So not only is this one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but it happens to have a beautiful dog that comes from the area (apologies in advance to those from Hungary, Yorkshire, Boston, or Scotland….your dogs look good too…).
So you want to come visit Split and adopt a Dalamation?
Here are some of the ways that Euro Jet can help in Split:
- We have a new agent named Marija Rada, who brings over 15 years of experience working at the airport. This is nothing unusual as most Euro Jet agents have worked at our airports for this amount of time.
- We can take care of all payments.
- We can fuel your aircraft at very competitive rates.
- We can provide all permits
- We can coordinate your discounted hotel and transportation needs.
- We can assist with all catering from carefully selected vendors.
Needless to say we cannot thank Split Airport enough for the opportunity to let us return and create this strategic partnership. What we have now is the essence of Split, a budding relationship.
Like the Imagination Stage outside Washington, DC, things are not always so direct and easy to figure out. Sometimes you need a little imagination and creativity to figure things out.
Let me predict on this blog, that with a little creativity Euro Jet will have at least 101 Flights to Split this year.
Imagine that!
