Winter Olympics 2026: Euro Jet Ready to Support Flights into Northern Italy

29. 01. 2026 News 6min

As preparations accelerate for the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Northern Italy, Euro Jet is ready to support flights into the region throughout February and March 2026. While airspace restrictions, heightened security, and multi-airport operations are expected, Euro Jet can provide a reliable one-stop-shop solution to help customers navigate this exceptional event as smoothly as possible.

The Opening Ceremony takes place on Friday, February 6 at the San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan. Sixteen Winter Olympic sports will be contested over two weeks in Milan and six other venues across the Italian Alps. The Closing Ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 22 at the Arena di Verona.

The Paralympic Winter Games will follow shortly after, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for Friday, March 6 in Verona. After a week of competition across six winter sports, the Games will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, March 15 at the Stadio Olimpico del Ghiaccio in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Key Locations and Airports for Winter Olympics 2026

Key Airports for Winter Olympics Operations

Northern Italy offers several strong airport options depending on flight profile and schedule:

  • Milano Malpensa (LIMC/MXP) is the main international airport serving Milan and is suitable for high-profile arrivals and guests attending the Opening Ceremony in the city.
  • Milano Linate (LIML/LIN) is Milan’s city airport and the busiest general aviation airport in Italy. Despite high traffic levels, Linate is typically able to accommodate the majority of GA requests.
  • Milano Bergamo (LIME/BGY) is a great alternate close to Milan’s metropolitan area. The airport features a dedicated GA taxiway and an efficient GA terminal allowing for fast airport transit times. Bergamo is often more convenient for ground transport than Malpensa because of its direct motorway access to Milan.
  • Verona (LIPX/VRN) as well as Brescia (LIPO/VBS) and Venice (LIPZ/VCE) are suitable options for flights related to the Olympic Closing Ceremony and the Paralympic Opening Ceremony held in Verona.

While overall parking capacity at these airports is not a major concern, the primary challenges will be airspace access, official approvals, and evolving operational procedures rather than physical space availability.

Repositioning is not expected to be widely necessary as many Olympic-related flights – particularly cargo and athlete movements – are planned as drop-off only. Should repositioning be required, Euro Jet can assist with options across Italy and neighboring countries, including Slovenia where our local team of agents are available to arrange all required ground services.

Libor Sollar, Euro Jet's Business Development Manager

One-Stop-Shop Support

As operational conditions at airports in Northern Italy remain subject to change, we spoke with Libor Sollar, Euro Jet’s Business Development Manager responsible for vendor relations in the region. Libor is in direct contact with our local partners and recently went to Milan for in-person meetings and site visits. Below he shares with us the latest updates and outlines what Euro Jet can provide, in addition to recommendations for our customers.

What are the most important operational updates operators and customers should be aware of for the Winter Olympics?

Authorities and service providers are coordinating closely, and official operational guidelines continue to evolve. Milan airspace is expected to be closed or heavily restricted for 48 hours or more during the Opening Ceremony, with access prioritized for diplomatic flights and official Olympic partners. Parking confirmations are still pending, and approvals for general aviation may be released at very short notice. While last-minute confirmations and some operational uncertainty should be expected, I am confident that local service providers are well prepared to handle Olympic-related traffic.

Please also note that construction is ongoing at both Malpensa and Linate airports.

How can Euro Jet assist customers flying to the Winter Olympics?

While Euro Jet does not have personnel stationed locally, we work with trusted, long-standing partners across the region. This allows us to act as a one-stop shop for our customers – coordinating all ground services across multiple airports and flight types, including cargo flights, athlete movements, official delegations, and VIP guest flights. We stay closely informed and provide both operational advice and full-service coordination, from arranging ground handling, fuel, and permits to catering, ground transportation, and crew accommodation.

What are your recommendations to customers planning Olympic-related flights?

Please send all requests as early as possible and make sure all documentation is prepared and submitted correctly. At the same time, patience is essential. Authorities will likely wait until official guest numbers are confirmed before releasing slots, parking, and approvals. There is only so much that can be expedited, but with proper preparation and flexibility, operations should ultimately run smoothly.
