Flying to the Balkans: Bulgaria
Bulgaria, a country located in the Balkan region and one of Eastern Europe’s hidden treasures, can serve as both a tourist destination but also as a very strategically located and competitively priced country with multiple airports that can be used as tech stops.
What should you know when flying to Bulgaria
If you are planning a flight to one of Bulgaria’s airports, find below an overview of useful information to help you schedule your flight.
Entry Airports
Entry airports in Bulgaria receive an increasing number of commercial flights as well as private and business aviation flights.
Aircraft Parking
In general, all Bulgarian airports have sufficient capacity regarding ramp space for aircraft parking. In terms of alternates, Plovdiv Airport can be a good parking alternate for Greece, while Burgas Airport and Varna Airport represent convenient alternates for parking in Turkey, especially Istanbul.
Landing and Take-off Permits
Landing permit is required for all non-EU registered aircrafts regardless of the classification of the flight. EU registered aircrafts only require landing permit if flying from a third country (outside the EU) or if carrying special, military, dangerous and/or dual use cargo. The permit lead time is 2 working days.
